  • Dr. Denver Beanland AM BA PhD

    Born on 26 January 1945 at St Margaret’s Private Hospital, Kilcoy, Queensland

  • Lived on a dairy farm called Avondale located at Mary Smokes Creek, between Kilcoy and Woodford
  • Attended the Kalangara State School at Stoney Creek, and continued his secondary education at Caboolture State High School
  • Elected as an Alderman of the Brisbane City Council in 1976 and served a period as Deputy Lord Mayor of Brisbane.
  • Elected to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, in 1986, as the member for Toowong renamed Indooroopilly.
  • Served as Attorney-General in the Borbidge government from February 1996 to 20 June 1998
  • Served as Opposition Spokesperson, prior to 1996, for a number of portfolios including Justice, Transport and Land Management
  • Lost his seat of Indooroopilly at the 2001 state election
  • After leaving politics, studied at U Q, completing a Bachelor of Arts with first class Honours in History and Doctor of Philosophy in history in 2007. The topic of his PhD thesis was former Queensland Premier Thomas McIlwraith.
  • Author of three books and the author of many published articles.
  • Chair of the National Archives of Australia Advisory Council.
  • Past President of The Royal Historical Society of Queensland, currently serves on the Society’s Council, Elected a Fellow of the Society.
  • Chair of the Brisbane City Council’s Heritage Advisory Committee
  • Appointed a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia (General Division).
