Rotary Woolloongabba joins with Lions Club for community rally

Following the announcement that Brisbane had won the right to host the 2032 Olympic Games, came the rumours that Raymond Park (next to Pineapple Hotel Kangaroo Point) would be converted into a running track for the games. Not everyone thought that a good idea especially as there is limited greenspace in Kangaroo Point, Woolloongabba, and East Brisbane as it is. A community movie night was organised to rally against the idea and the movie chosen – “The Castle” – the Kerrigans fight against the airport to take their home.

You cannot have a movie without some refreshments and the Lions Club was short handed. They turned to Rotary Woolloongabbato provide the BBQs, tables and equipment to provide hamburgers, sausages in bread, veggie burgers and drinks to the multitude. Bumping in at 4.00pm cooking cleaning up and bumping out at 8.30pm, we provided the labour, equipment, resources and know how to get them fed.

As this was a first, estimating the supplies was without precedent so we ended up with surplus sausages and hamburger patties. Recently that surplus food was donated to and used by Signal Flare for a BBQ for homeles people in West End. Nothing was wasted.
