GABBA SENIOR CITIZENS AND COMMUNITY CENTRE

The Gabba Community Hall has been a place for community activities since 1976. We have been extensively involved in maintaining the Hall.

Our members banded together to save the Hall from being lost to the community of Woolloongabba and the hall is now the home of Metro Community Hub one of Brisbane’s oldest senior citizens associations first established in Fortitude Valley.

Metro Community Hub specialises in supporting older people to maintain their independence and stay connected to their community. We believe that forming and maintaining connections to neighbours, friends and the community is important throughout the whole lifespan, so our activities focus on people over 50.

Our group activities keep people mobile and motivated, not isolated and alone, focusing on the social rather than the strenuous. This ensures people make friends, participate regularly, and enjoy themselves – all necessary ingredients to assist people to feel vital and connected.

Further, we support the wider community by offering affordable spaces to meet together, run workshops, training, and meet for other purposes.

NETWORKING AND HAVING FUN

Rotary commenced as a business networking club and has developed a community focus but it remains a place where business connections can be made.

Our club presently includes Accountant, Funeral director, Engineering Drafting, Employment Assistance, Legal and corporate Consulting, Stretch Fabric and Costume manufacture, Real Estate to name a few.

We also develop community networks through our local Federal, State and Council members charities, sporting associations, business networks and various community groups.

Through all of this activity strong friendships are built and we enjoy the fellowship of our friends through dinners BBQs and outings – it has to be fun.
